Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Boston! Now, cans of Guinness stout will never replace a properly pulled pint in a cozy Irish pub, but we home-bound revelers make do with what we have.

We go through a fair amount of Guinness here at The Mouse Houseboth for drinking and cooking. Here’s a handful of my favorite recipes that feature the famous stout, to help you get your Irish on any day of the year.

One of my favorite recipes has to be this Guinness Stew with Sage and Ginger. It takes a while to make, since you start out roasting bones, but it’s definitely worth the effort.

For an easier stew, make yourself some Guinness-Braised Short Ribs, a richly flavored stew with melt-in-your-mouth meat.

If seafood’s more your style, try my Mussels in Ginger Stout Broth. They’re economical and are best paired with a loaf of crusty bread to sop up all that wonderful broth.

And for dessert? These Chocolate and Vanilla Guinness Floats topped with homemade creme chantilly are a super-decadent treat. (Blasphemy according to Guinness purists, I know.)

This last one doesn’t have any Guinness. It’s my take on Homemade Irish Cream Liqueur. It’s made with Jameson’s Irish Whiskey, making it close enough for the holiday.

Cheers!

    • Thanks so much! Guinness + ginger = super yummy. It's fabulous like this, but is also a great combination for cakes and cookies and the like. Cheers! +Jessie
  1. Cant wait to try the Guinness and ginger. We love ginger and I can imagine how the taste would enhance the beer. The beer tenderizes the meat but mussels- more seafood lovers here also but everything looks so yummy. The floats my girlfriend(born in Ireland)and I would try before Thumper would he is from Europe but isn't in to beer not even wheat beer. They look pretty addicting:)
  2. You're going to shake your hand at me because I have never had Guinness only because I do not drink beer. However, now I saw that delicious stew, I want to try using it with cooking!
