We’re a little late with this post. Been a crazy few weeks here at The Mouse House (all good stuff, don’t worry)!

We survived another Halloween here in beautiful Salem, MA, arguably the spooky capital of the world every October.

This year, we had a couple of friends come into town to share the festivities. It’s always a blast showing people around Salem on Halloween night who have never been here for the big party.

And by party, I mean, PARTY. I think we got something like 100,000 people in town on Friday. That looks something like this during the day…and this at night:

Here’s a look back at this year’s Halloween season. This is one of our favorite posts of the year every year. We love sharing a little piece of where we live with you guys.

Day of the Dog

If you know us, you know we love dogs. First stop for us this month was Day of the Dog, a relatively new pet shop down on Pickering Wharf.

One of the owners is a good old friend of ours, and we’re always happy to give our buddies props when we can.

Luna, the third shopkeeper, is a total sweetheart, as well.

Here’s a peek around their shop. If you’re local, they do fantastic grooming, and sell a variety of stuff for dogs and cats, including toys, leashes, natural treats, and gifts for animal lovers.

Salem at Halloween by Day

We love to stroll around Salem Halloween week. When we left Day of the Dog, we stopped by the Friendship, a 171-foot replica of a 1797 East Indiaman. It typically functions as an educational exhibit, but does occasionally go out sailing. You can also rent it out for certain events.

Then we headed up and into town to look around.

You can’t throw a rock in Salem in October without hitting someone wearing a witch hat. Tiny ones. Big ones. They are truly everywhere.

Stores are always packed, oftentimes with a line out the door.

If you haven’t been here, everyone tries to get a picture with the Samantha statue (from the TV show Bewitched). I had to wait a while to grab a shot of her alone.

There are always a bunch of top-notch street performers.

The costumes during the day were great, as usual.

Old Burying Point Cemetery

Old Burying Point is the oldest boneyard in Salem. It’s always a big draw for visitors.

Salem on Halloween Night

As if daytime isn’t crazy enough, people pull out all the stops as the party gets roaring as night falls.

The city closes down a bunch of streets to traffic, and we throw the biggest Halloween party on the planet.

Here are some highlights from our walk around town that evening.

This picture is a little blurry…I’m still learning to master the tao of taking pictures at night…but this was the whole cast of the X-Men. Pretty awesome.

And it wouldn’t be Salem at Halloween without the protesting types. There are always a handful of them, some are pretty polite, some really like to get into it and yell at the crowd.
