You gotta love a recipe that has 2+ pounds of butter. Talk about holiday decadence. So, I was looking for a pecan bar recipe that didn’t include high-fructose corn syrup, which is actually harder to find than you might think. This one totally fit the bill. Thanks to Ina Garten for this recipe. She’s my […]
This recipe turns out gorgeous, gloriously orange baked pumpkin donuts in just about 30 minutes. Get my step-by-step photo recipe here!
OK, so you guys know me: I’m all about butter, heavy cream, meat, and bacon. But ever since I wrote my ice cream cookbook, Slushed!, people have been asking me about making vegan ice cream. Which is technically a contradiction in terms. Considering ice cream is generally all milk, cream, and eggs, this was definitely […]
This ain’t your grandma’s apple pie. I baked it in a cheesecake pan, for a towering 3-inches of apple-pie goodness. This pie is my riff on Dede Wilson’s Deep-Dish Sour Cream-Apple Pie from her amazing book Unforgettable Desserts. (Go buy yourself a copy, you won’t be sorry. I can’t wait to try more of her […]
Want to see a tableful of people light up like a bunch of 8 year olds? Serve caramel apples for dessert. Depending on how chill your crowd is, caramel apples can be an awesome—and totally unexpected—way to end to a Fall or Winter dinner party. I know, I know. Most people associate caramel apples with […]
Fall’s officially here, let the baking begin! Apple and cranberry is such a classic New England combo when it comes to Autumn desserts. This cake gets a double apple punch from fresh apple cider and sliced apples. We always hit Brooksby Farm a couple of times a year to go apple picking. (If you live […]
Somebody save me. I almost always gain a couple of pounds in October, and I swear, this ice cream is a major reason why. ‘Tis the season here in beautiful Salem, Massachusetts, though. The season of pumpkin EVERYTHING. (Mwahahahaha…) This pumpkin ice cream is one of our fall favorites. If you like pumpkin stuff, I’m […]
This is a summer standby at The Mouse House. (Warning: This cake is not bikini friendly.) It’s dark, dense, and fudge-y, and is the perfect foil for everything from ice cream to fresh berries. I like to slice it in half and fill it with whipped chocolate ganache. (Hello, heaven!) The best part about this […]
There are times when it’s easier to use pre-made or frozen pie crust. Wait, what? Go on: Scold me if you want. When you’ve already been going for 12 hours by the time 6 pm rolls around, sometimes convenience wins. That said, when I do have the time, I definitely always make my own crust. Nothing compares.
Somebody help me: After 35 years, I think I’m developing a sweet tooth. Tragic, right? Get over it and join the rest of the world, Mouse. I know. All my life, I’ve always been a salty snacker. I’d happily chomp on cheese over chocolate, pizza over pastry, meat over munchkins. You get the picture. But […]
